The A’s – "He Needs Me" (Weekly Music Roundup)

The A’s is a new duo comprised of two old friends – Amelia Meath (of the folk/electronic band Sylvan Esso) and Alexandra Sauser-Monnig (who records as Daughter of Swords) are both members of the folk trio Mountain Man. But as The A’s, Amelia and Alexandra are about to release an album full of old ballads, lullabies, and surprises, like this first single. It’s a cover of “He Needs Me,” written by the hitmaker Harry Nilsson and originally sung by Shelley Duvall in the 1980 movie Popeye. Their version is somehow weird, whimsical and sincere all at once.
