Samora Pinderhughes is a singer, composer, film maker and producer who has worked regularly with the rapper Common and scored several award-winning documentaries. His best known work is The Healing Project, a 10-year exploration of the prison system and the racism and violence that feeds it, which he’s played at Carnegie Hall and documented on his solo album Grief in 2022. His new record, 8 years in the making, is about love, grief, depression and forgiveness; it’s called Venus Smiles Not In The House Of Tears. Samora Pinderhughes performs live in our studio for the latest Soundcheck Podcast and on Friday night, Dec. 20 at the Perelman Art Center.
