Samora Pinderhughes released an album called Grief, which called out the inequities in and the damage done by mass incarceration. Pinderhughes’ music is not loud or aggressive – it’s often whisper-soft and mournful, while offering the possibility of grace and redemption. The album spawned a multimedia installation at The Kitchen which began in November and ends next Tuesday. At various points, Pinderhughes and his band have played live in the space, and one of those occasions is Tuesday night, Jan. 17. The songs don’t neatly fit into any of the usual categories, but this performance will be part of this year’s Winter Jazzfest. Pinderhughes and his band play two shows on Jan. 17 at the Kitchen’s Westbeth space.Â
