Has Partisanship Actually Helped the Fight Against Inequality?

After the attacks in Orlando, Hillary Clinton called for "statesmanship, not partisanship." In The Politicians & the Egalitarians, Princeton historian Sean Wilentz argues that partisanship has always been a part of American history and can even serve our interests, and argues that if we intend to promote the equally old American ideal of egalitarianism, we should embrace healthy partisanship.
