The Senator and the Stand-Up Comic Tackle Gun Violence
After the latest crowd-shooting took place in Louisiana during a screening of Amy Schumer's "Trainwreck," she teamed with her cousin U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to try to confront it.
Paul Barrett, assistant managing editor and senior writer at Bloomberg Businessweek, and author of Glock: The Rise of America's Gun (Broadway Books, 2013) and Law of the Jungle (Crown, 2014), talks about the joint press conference they held to announce the Senator's three-point plan to better enforce existing legislation prohibiting gun sales to criminals and the mentally ill.
If you're pro gun rights, do you support Schumers' proposed bill? (for states to follow through with filing background checks) 212-433-9692

@BrianLehrer Amy is involved due to sarah Clements open letter. But Sadly public support doesn't matter in this particular effort.

@BrianLehrer Amy Schumer = the next Jon Stewart? Brains, passion and humor, + she can get good guests via cousin Chuck. Hired!

I don’t think a die-hard gun rights person who’s skeptical of Chuck will change their mind because of Amy Schumer says @AuthorPMBarrett @BW.

.@AuthorPMBarrett: Schumer's proposal to survey 50 states to find best practices for involuntary commitment "crucial" to gun access debate.

@BrianLehrer local officials ignoring mental health felon needs stick for malfeasance for non reporting not just fed $ carrot

@BrianLehrer As a southerner, I think New Yorkers don't understand the conspiratorial anti-gov belligerence attached to guns in places.
