Senator Harry Reid on His Last Year in Congress

The Takeaway | Apr 14, 2016

This is Minority Leader Harry Reid's final year inside the Senate chamber — the Democratic senator from Nevada has served more than three decades in the United States Congress, and he's okay with the fact that he isn't universally liked.

“Listen, I know — I get the mail, I see my mail, so I know I don't make everybody happy, but I've never tried to do that," Senator Reid tells The Takeaway. "I've also tried to do what I thought was the best thing to do, and I've been under the theory that the best thing for me to do for the people of Nevada, and for the country, is tell people how I feel."

Takeaway Washington Correspondent Todd Zwillich caught up with Senator Reid this week to discuss his long career, the election, and why he just doesn't understand the current strategy of Senate Republicans when it comes to Merrick Garland, President Obama's Supreme Court Justice nominee.
