Sinkane, Black Violin at City Winery
April 2-3. 8PM. $66-$181.
April 4 at Bergen Performing Arts Center
8PM. $40+up

The group Sinkane is usually referred to as a funk band, which is true but only tells a little of the story. The band’s Sudanese-American leader and songwriter Ahmed Gallab weaves the sounds of soul, Afrobeat, disco, even krautrock into his irresistible, dance-ready songs. And like the vintage soul of Curtis Mayfield or Marvin Gaye, the catchy tune becomes an effective delivery mechanism for a message of social change. Sinkane plays at City Winery on April 2-3 on a bill with Black Violin, and at the Bergen Performing Arts Center on April 4.
