Police say a small plane was en route to New Hampshire from Philadelphia when it went down in the Atlantic Ocean off Breezy Point, Queens.

Authorities recovered a male body and parts of the aircraft, including pieces of fiberglass, an aircraft wheel, fuselage and personal property.

Police say it's believed only one person was on board when the plane went down at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

They say the aircraft was a two-seater, believed to be a Cirrus SR22, and was headed for Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Rescue crews went to the scene following 911 calls from witnesses reporting a plane down.

The search was suspended at 12:20 a.m. Thursday and expected to resume sometime later in the day.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash.
