The band SML, which stands for small, medium, large, is a quintet comprised of some of the most in-demand musicians on the LA improvised music scene. And SML’s songs do all begin as improvisations, often running for a long time. But then they take those improvised recordings and through the use of editing, looping, and layering, they build grooves and structures that make it seem like they had it all planned out at the start. The band SML makes a rare appearance on Dec. 3 at Public Records.
