Sonido Verde de Moyobamba – "La Cervecita" (Weekly Music Roundup)
The German record label called Analog Africa has an absolutely brilliant motto: “the future of music happened decades ago.” To prove their point they’ve just released an album, Perú Selvático - Sonic Expedition into the Peruvian Amazon 1972-1986. This collection showcases previously unheard music that developed in small towns in the Peruvian Amazon, where young musicians blended traditional cumbia rhythms with the exotic sounds of American and English psychedelic rock that they heard coming over radio broadcasts from the distant capital. Apparently, these local groups were never picked up by the city slickers in Lima, so their music remained largely unknown. This band was called Sonido Verde de Moyobamba (Moyobamba being the name of their town), and this catchy party tune is called “La Cervecita,” or “the little beer.” This compilation of Peruvian Amazonian surf rock is part of our Weekly Music Roundup.
