One Play, So Many Countries

The Leonard Lopate Show | May 1, 2017

Dominic Dromgoole, author and former artistic director of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London, joins us to discuss his book, Hamlet Globe to Globe: Two Years, 193,000 Miles, 197 Countries, One Play. Dromgoole shares stories from the two years the Globe spent performing "Hamlet" around the world as part of the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth. He discuses how the group pulled off taking their show on the road, and how external forces like political unrest, disease and the environment affected their tour.

Dominic Dromgoole will be part of a panel on Shakespeare and free speech on May 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the PEN World Voices Location (Roulette: 509 Atlantic Ave., entrance at the corner of Third Ave.).
