The New Orleans group Tank and the Bangas first gained wide popularity when they won NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest in 2017. Since then, the band has developed its rich blend of soul, funk, hip hop, and New Orleans jazz, all supporting lead singer Tarriona “Tank” Ball’s commanding vocals. Tank is also a poet and the band’s latest album includes both singing and spoken word. Tank and the Bangas play a run of shows Nov. 7-10 at the Blue Note.
