The Jesus And Mary Chain, 30 Years After 'Psychocandy'; Suzanne Vega Plays Live

Soundcheck | Nov 14, 2014

In this episode: The Jesus And Mary Chain is considered one of the most influential -- and loudest -- bands in history thanks to its seminal 1985 album, Psychocandy. The band is the subject of Zoe Howe's new biography, Barbed Wire Kisses: The Jesus & Mary Chain Story, which charts the shoegaze pioneer's story.

And: Suzanne Vega is still best known for her catchy 1987 song “Tom’s Diner,” which continues to be sampled by a number of artists -- most recently the rock band Fall Out Boy. With her latest album, Tales From the Realm of the Queen of Pentacles, Vega demonstrates that she remains one of America's most distinctive musical voices. Hear Vega and her band perform in the Soundcheck studio.
