In 1989, when David Dinkins launched his trailblazing run for mayor of New York City, it was far from a foregone conclusion. But he won becoming the first and only Black mayor in the city's history. Now, more Black candidates are running for mayor than ever, hoping to repeat Dinkins' historic win.
