The guitarist and singer known as D’Gary (Ernest Randrianasolo is from Madagascar. He’s probably the most well-known Malagasy musician working today, but he is now leading a new Malagasy supergroup called Toko Telo.  This trio uses the infectious rhythms of Madagascar, but they’re not bound to tradition. In fact, D’Gary has a long history of working with western musicians, and has recorded with banjo player Bela Fleck. 

D’Gary’s new band, the Malagasy power trio Toko Telo, featuring the soulful voice of Monika Njava and dexterously interweaving guitar wizardry from D’Gary and Joël Rabesolo, plays Friday, Sept. 20 at Chelsea Music Hall.
