Trying to Graduate From High School at 21

Radio Rookies | Jul 3, 2019

About 25 percent of New York City high school students struggle to graduate in four years. Rookie reporter Shamari Ridley is one of them. He dropped out in the 11th grade after years of moving and switching schools. All that instability left him under-credited and without a strong sense of connection to any one school. Finally he landed in one of New York City's 51 transfer schools, Manhattan Day Night Comprehensive, for over-age and under-credited high school students. Listen to how Shamari found the support he needed in a school designed to help someone like him succeed.
