On September 6th, Hurricane Irma hit the island of Barbuda at maximum intensity and damaged 95 percent of the island’s structures. Ambassador Ronald Sanders has served as Antigua and Barbuda’s ambassador to the U.S. since 2015, and gives us the details on the damage on the island of Barbuda, which has been nearly totally decimated.

The U.S. Virgin Islands, which include the main islands of Saint Croix, Saint John, and Saint Thomas, were also hit hard by Hurricane Irma.

At least four people were killed by the storm, and Saint John and Saint Thomas bared the brunt of the damage. Dr. Eugene "Doc" Petersen is a native of St. Croix and retired veterinarian. He's now a singer and musician and part time radio host who has been using the airwaves to help people in the neighboring islands that have been more severely affected by Irma. He explains how his community is coping.

This segment is hosted by Todd Zwillich.
