Vaya Futuro – "El Abuelo" (Weekly Music Roundup)

The Mexican band Vaya Futuro's sonic spectrum encompasses different musical genres ranging from flamenco, jazz, ambient, orquestal arrangements and electronic experimentation in the recording studio. They also have some big ideas behind their songs. Their forthcoming album is called El Peso Del Mundo (“The Weight Of The World”), and we just premiered the album’s opening track, “El Abuelo” (“Grandfather.”) The subject is nothing less than humanity’s relationship with nature, and the song’s cinematic sweep is matched by a stunning video, full of contrasting but sometimes oddly complementary images of the natural world and the modern human one. Immigrants' stories have been unfolding on an off-Broadway stage in an uncommon way. One is of a doctor in her 40s who fled Zimbabwe. Another featured a Colombian woman who regretted leaving her homeland for the United States. A third entered into a marriage of convenience with an American after overstaying her visa, and then suffered a violent assault in the subway.
