This Week in Politics: Moneyball and How the NJ Governor's Race is Played

WNYC News | Apr 22, 2017

Business as usual. Par for the course. Move along folks, nothing to see here.

The primary in the New Jersey governor's race is just over six weeks away.

Poll numbers indicate that most voters in the Garden State aren't paying attention - and aren't even familiar with the candidates.

But pundits say Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno will likely win the Republican primary and that former Goldman Sachs executive Phil Murphy is a lock to take the Democratic nomination.

As Patrick Murray, Director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute says, "Everything's chugging along normally here in New Jersey. And it looks like the outcome is going to be fairly predictable."

Speaking with host David Furst he says there's a reason why there's so little uncertainty in the race – and it has everything to do with the way New Jersey organizes its ballots...and the power of county party committees.
