Lewis M. Steel, a member of the Warner Brothers family, grew up rich and white. But he ended up devoting his 50-year legal career on class action cases involving racial and sexual discrimination, including for the NAACP. In The Butler’s Child: An Autobiography, he writes about the problematic experience of coming from privilege, but working in a very different world.
