World of Percussion Re-Imagined at Bryant Park

June 12. 7PM. FREE

It’s not officially summer yet, but the summer crop of free concerts has already started at Bryant Park. On Friday, June 12, it’s a World Of Percussion, Reimagined, a coming together of some of New York’s leading drummers in traditions from around the world. There's Cyro Baptista with samba drumming from Brazil; Sunny Jain and the grooves of Punjabi dance music; the all-womxn, Black-led, percussion band Batalá; Kaoru Watanabe with the thundering drums of Japan; tabla player Suphala, veteran frame drum pioneer Glen Velez; and others all coming together for a feast of percussion. The Afro-Cuban rumba master, Pedrito Martinez, will be part of the fun as well. The program of batterie called World Of Percussion, Re-Imagined presented by the World Music Institute is on June 12, at 7PM, FREE, at Bryant Park.
