Yemen Blues at House of Yes
Dec. 7. 7PM. $34.94

Yemen Blues is a band that mixes the sounds of traditional Yemeni folk music with West African grooves and the sounds of western rock and funk. The group is led by Ravid Kahalani, an Israeli singer and songwriter from a Yemenite Jewish family; he plays the gimbri, a 3-string lute from Morocco. Other members of Yemen Blues play instruments from Arab folk and classical music, percussion from Africa and the Near East, and generally work hard to suggest that music is something that connects people from a bitterly divided part of the world. Yemen Blues plays on Dec. 7 at House of Yes, in Brooklyn, as part of the World Music Institute’s series.
