Yumi Kurosawa Trio at Joe's Pub
March 30. 7PM. $31.

The Japanese koto is a type of zither – a large and imposing zither with, traditionally, silk strings. It’s considered to be Japan’s national instrument, but thanks to musicians like Yumi Kurosawa, it now has an international profile. Kurosawa plays the traditional music for the 20-string koto, but also plays contemporary works written for her, as well as her own original music. She’s even done a version of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Now based here in New York, Kurosawa also leads a trio that includes the Western violin and percussion, most notably the Indian drums known as tabla. Yumi Kurosawa and her trio play March 30 at Joe’s Pub.
