The Icelandic singer and songwriter Ásgeir has become known for his diaphanous vocals and his warm and cinematic brand of folk pop. He burst upon the scene a dozen years ago with a debut that sold faster than the debuts of Icelandic heavyweights like Björk and Sigur Ros. Since then, he’s perfected a kind of Americana-influenced sound. Ásgeir names Leonard Cohen, Daniel Lanois, and Nick Drake as influences, (two Canadians and a Brit, for those keeping score.) His new album is called Julia, and it Ásgeir to Le Poisson Rouge on June 30.
