Women baseball players get a professional league of their own

For the first time since 1954, women will play professional baseball in the U.S in the new Women's Pro Baseball League. The 15 regular-season games for each club and the playoffs will be held at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois, and the games will air on ESPN and Scripps Sports Network for the inaugural season.

Sabrina Robinson of Morristown, New Jersey started a women's baseball club at Montclair State University and actively supports girls’ baseball through the East Coast Women’s Baseball Team and Philadelphia Girls Baseball. She'll play the infield for the Boston Hunters this season. Nylah Ramirez of Brooklyn has earned multiple regional championships and has played for Puerto Rico's Women’s National Team. She also helped lead the Brooklyn Bulldogs 10U boys team to a championship as a coach this summer. She was drafted to Boston as a righthanded pitcher and will be a reserve pitcher for the league. They joined WNYC host Michael Hill to discuss playing in co-ed little league teams as girls and the the upcoming season.

The WPBL season opener is Aug. 1 with a game between the New York Heights and the Los Angeles Queens. Boston will verse the San Francisco Firebells on Aug. 2.
