Director Kevin Smith explains why Hollywood owes its existence to New Jersey

In honor of America's 250th, we're shining a spotlight on some of the concepts and inventions that came from New York and New Jersey. All this month on WNYC, Gothamist, and our local news podcast NYC Now, we're focusing on important creations the region gave to the world. This time, we look at why Hollywood owes it all to New Jersey. 

Weekend Edition host David Furst is joined by Michael Sol Warren who covers New Jersey for WNYC. And we'll hear from one of the leading voices of New Jersey film, the one and only Kevin Smith. He says when it comes to the state's importance in the history of cinema, New Jersey never gets its due.
