What exactly is a "Knickerbocker" anyway?

The NBA champion New York Knicks have been the talk of the city.

But where did the name “Knicks” actually come from? And what’s a “knickerbocker”?

Michael Miscione was the Manhattan Borough Historian from 2006 to 2019. He joins WNYC's Sean Carlson to talk more about the history behind the team name.
