The Soul Rebels are an 8 piece brass band from New Orleans with that classic New Orleans sound, a distinctive blend of soul and jazz, but The Soul Rebels all grew up with hip hop, rock, and funk, so they’ve incorporated those sounds too. Their roster of collaborators, both live and on their albums, shows just how wide a net they’ve cast: pop stars like Katy Perry, rappers like Lil Wayne and GZA from the Wu Tang Clan, and the groundbreaking jazz pianist Robert Glasper and the harpist Brandee Younger. The Soul Rebels play at the Blue Note, from July 2-5.
