Traffic Citations: WNYC's monthly look at traffic deaths and safety improvements in NYC

WNYC News | May 29

This May, many of the traffic deaths were due to a driver losing control of their vehicle.

Some drivers killed only themselves, but some killed other people, including one incident on the Upper West Side where a driver lost control of a van. Police say four people were struck and two of them died.

The Department of Transportation has been busy this month as well, adding offset bus lanes on Lexington Avenue, planning for a bus route in Queens between LaGuardia and the subway, and expanding the Sixth Avenue bike lane in Manhattan. The city also began work on the protected bike lane project on McGuinness Boulevard in Greenpoint Brooklyn, a job that finishes the work that was controversial under the Adams administration.

WNYC transportation reporter Stephen Nessen spoke with Morning Edition host Michael Hill.
