Mavis Staples is an American treasure. As part of the Staples Singers she was active in the civil rights movement of the 60s, and since then she’s collaborated with Aretha Franklin, Prince, Bob Dylan, and so many others. She’s a Kennedy Center Honoree, a multiple Grammy winner, including a Lifetime Achievement Award, and a member of the Gospel Hall Of Fame, the Blues Hall of Fame, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She’s still going strong at 87, and she performs a free concert on July 16 as part of Central Park SummerStage.
