Julia Angwin, an investigative journalist at ProPublica, joins us to discuss her recent piece about racial bias in the car insurance industry, “Minority Neighborhoods Pay Higher Car Insurance Premiums Than White Areas With the Same Risk.” Co-published with Consumer Reports, the piece reveals that  premiums and payouts in California, Illinois, Texas and Missouri show that some major insurers charge minority neighborhoods as much as 30 percent more than other areas with similar accident costs.
