Listen to human-made music from South African trombonist Malcolm Jiyane; Northern Irish producer and composer Hannah Peel and Chinese percussionist Beibei Wang; and from Japanese multi-instrumentalist and composer Yas Kaz.

Hear music by South African trombonist (and pianist) Malcolm Jiyane, who, as bandleader, delivers a jazz-funk dedication celebrating the creative force as inhabited by women in “Umkhumbi kaMa.” Then, hear synths and prepared piano alongside traditional and unconventional percussion from the collaboration between Northern Irish producer and composer Hannah Peel and Chinese percussionist Beibei Wang. Listen to a tune called “Wild Geese Arrive” built around a marimba warm-up riff, and using the sampled sounds of hiccups.

There’s also music from Cumbria-based musician, producer and DJ Tom Burford, recording as Contours. Listen to a work, “Keld”, that features both South African cellist and vocalist Abel Selaocoe with DJ/Producer Callum Connell, currently based in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Plus, revisit Jomon-sho, an album from the 1980’s by the Japanese multi-instrumentalist and composer Yas Kaz who has worked with the dance group Sankai Juku. That, and more. - Caryn Havlik
